Program/Project: Sustainable Food Systems Team (Sun Life Food Shed Farming Enterprise, Alegria, Surigao del Norte)
Duration: 1 April to 30 September 2026
Reports to: Project Manager for Sustainable Food Systems
Internal: Interacts with the Director for Programs, Project Manager, WWF Project Managers, HR and Accounting, Communications and Marketing
External: Project Consultants and Local Government Officials most particularly the LGUs of the host communities (municipality and barangay), partner NGOs, community stakeholders, business support organizations (BSOs), people’s organizations, academic and research institutions and other aligned agencies
Sustainable Food System – Food Shed Farming Enterprise
The Food Shed Farming Enterprise is a flagship innovation under the Sustainable Food Systems Team. The Food Shed Farming System is a compact, protective, regenerative and diversified food production system that is very local, cost-effective and highly replicable. The food security intervention through the food shed farming enterprise aims to improve resilience of low-income and vulnerable communities to stresses affecting already-limited food accessibility and increase capacity of community residents to utilize the technology to secure food and livelihoods.
The Local Community Coordinator primarily oversees the implementation of Food Shed Farming Enterprise Project in following barangays in Alegria, Surigao del Norte:
1. Ombong
2. Oauno
3. San Pedro
4. Pongtud
The Local Community Coordinator is also tasked to undertake the following:
1. Provides oversight, technical assistance and training support to the implementation of the Food Shed Farming Enterprise Projects in Barangays Ombong, Oauno, San Pedro and Pongtud, Alegria, Surigao del Norte.
2. Facilitate the training, designing and construction of one food shed structure per partner barangay and ensure compliance to construction quality standards.
3. Accompany the farmers through the steps of the agro-enterprise and market linkaging and ensure the farmers active participation in group activities, share their experiences to help the group learn and take responsibility for their food shed farming enterprise.
4. Help facilitate the conduct of the training program on financial literacy and group savings and loans association (GSLA). Monitor progress of the GSLAs established and provide regular status updates.
5. Ensures the progress of the activities and closely coordinates with local partners from the local government and community stakeholders.
6. Represent the project in fora, meetings, and dialogues with partner line agencies and organizations in Alegria, Surigao del Norte.
7. Performs other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications: University degree in agricultural biosystems engineering, agriculture or a related field.
Experience: Has experience working with farmers and farmers organizations on agriculture extension services. Experience with LGU-assisted agriculture projects is an advantage.
Skills and Abilities:
• Skills in facilitating training sessions and identifying appropriate training needs and methods, especially in the areas of land development, production and farm structures.
• Strong analytical training skills with proficiency in relevant software tools. Mastery of MS Office, especially Excel, including the Google platform.
• Good report-writing skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and partners.
• Positive attitude and an organized approach to work.
• Good decision-making skills and require no or very minimal supervision.
• Willing and able to travel to various project sites.
• Resident of Alegria, Surigao del Norte is an advantage.
• Ability to speak the local language (English, Filipino, Cebuano, Surigaonon) in place of assignment is a plus.
