Individual Donors Program
Direct Debit Donor Program FAQ
The environmental issues we face today such as climate change, food security and threats to freshwater sources have become very pressing indeed. Campaigns like the recent Earth Hour showed that, although people are part of the problem, we are also the only solution. People caused these problems - only people can solve them. From our many years of field experience in conservation and sustainable development, we know that it takes years to transform people and communities. Now more than ever, we need to sustain effective programs and operations to address these issues.
For this reason, WWF-Philippines is undertaking an individual donor program to generate much-needed support.
Why individual donors?
WWF Philippines relies on voluntary contributions from corporations, private foundations, multilateral / bilateral aid agencies as well as individual memberships. With the exception of memberships, these sources support mostly time-bound and very specific project activities, rarely providing sufficient funds to cover all operating expenses.
The focus of the fundraising program is therefore to encourage as many people as possible, individuals like you and me, to contribute modest amounts regularly. Pooled together, these funds will make up a significant portion of WWF's unrestricted fund requirements, critical to operations that support all our programs.
How will the fundraising program be implemented?
To carry out the fundraising program, we have contracted the services of APPCO, an agency also working with WWF Malaysia, Australia and Indonesia. Our WWF-APPCO fundraising team supports the cause of WWF and is tasked to encourage others to do the same. They will approach people in various Metro Manila locations and will have the appropriate identification and authorization from WWF.
We ask for modest amounts (P300, P400, P500 / month) because we believe in offering affordable and sustainable giving opportunities to a wide audience. By accepting donations made through credit cards, we reduce transaction costs significantly and also eliminate problems that may arise from handling cash contributions off-site.
Is the fundraising team getting paid commissions?
No. They are paid a one-time service fee from a pre-allocated budget.
How will the funds be used?
Your money shall be pooled together and put to good use by:
- Supporting conservation projects in 11 key sites across the Philippines.
- Promoting clean, renewable energy through extensive climate campaigns Earth Hour – now the largest and most well received environmental action in human history.
- Preparing seaborne communities to face worsening climate change impacts.
- Educating and empowering the Filipino youth via vigorous environmental education drives.
What can donors expect?
Those who sign up for the monthly program can expect regular updates from WWF, invitations to various donor events as well as our e-mail newsletter, the Biota Filipina.
